Welcome to Vellesunbird, my creative space.

I’m Nichole Florez, a multidisciplinary artist (illustrator, animator, painter, craft-maker and tattoo
artist), passionate about the power of art for healing, self-discovery and connection.

I’ll be completely honest with you, even though I’ve dedicated all my life to create, it wasn’t until a relatively short time ago that I started to consider myself an Artist.

I thought I needed prizes or recognition, being part of a big project, or have been graduated from the best university, everybody had a different answer and not even one resonated with me.
I also thought the Universe, God, never talked to me, even though I loved everything about it, its beauty and its defects.

But this all changed when I had my baby, in the process I met the most amazing community of women who supported me throughout my pregnancy, my birth and postpartum. Eventhough I was far away from my country, far from everything I knew, even myself, the person I thought I was.
This was a life-changing expericience, a spark, or how we would say in Colombia “un balde de agua fria”, it awakened me as if I was daydreaming, living in automatic, not owning my passions and dreams, it all looked too far away and I didn’t want to fail, but I was failing myself.

I wanted to thank these women, for inspiring me to follow a path of service. So now, art stopped being just a pretty thing, but a tool to heal, to listen, to be seen. I discovered, they were all artists as well, they transform words into couraging phrases that will stick to your heart till the end of the times, they create the most fulfilling meals that will warm and energize your body as never before, they made of friendship a community, who will always listen and be compasionate, they are wise and powerful, they are awake to share and love.

Now, I create these spaces to help people find their voice, to heal, to make peace with themselves and regain their inner creative power through art, which has so many shapes and forms.

Thank you for reading me.
